Tracking my work time
- Last week, I had to plugin a feature to an existing piece of code.
- The first 2-3 days went by unproductively, upgraded couple of my software and faced issues setting up the code, building it, multiple versions...
- I only remember how quickly the day ended and I didn't write a single piece of code
- Enough - I started tracking what I was doing at that moment, whenever I remembered to track.
- This automatically helped me to stop wasting time browsing and reading useless news
- For eg. Tracking my work time
9:30 reached office, meeting
9:45 offline refactor
10:10 update
10:25 handler update password
10:56 handler update payload
11:20 handler update login attempts
Managing use cases and conditions
- The next big breakthrough I had was, I started tracking the different use cases and combinations of how this feature will be used.
- Drew a table and listed each condition and application states
- It grew pretty big and was exhaustive
- Almost, no use case or condition was left untouched
- Which made the change robust and clear to all stakeholders
- I found a few bugs also during this
- Totally self-managed, without anyone running behind me.
I gave a demo right on time and with nothing untouched.
